In Alykes, the garden of restaurants and bars are bursting all summer long with large groups of people having great fun.
The small river of Skourtis runs alongside the road and features a beautiful stone-built bridge, manufactured by the British during their possesion of the island. The salt-pits, which in Greek are called Alykes and have lent their name to the resort, are located behind the village and at one time were the most significant contributor to the island's economy.
Alykes is also the home of one of the island's hot springs that has been given the strange name of "Kolosourtis" which loosely translated means "bottom-dragger"!
