Zante Zakynthos Town
The town of zante (or Chora) was built upon the ruins of the old town, which was razed by the devastating earthquake of 1953.

The new town has attempted to retain the style of the old buildings. In Solomos Square a wide-open space facing the sea, surrounded by magnificent buildings such as the Byzantine Museum, and the Mynicipal Library.

In the center of the square stands the statue of Dionysios Solomos, the writer of the Greek National Anthem.

The Strata Marina St. starts in Solomos Square and runs as far as the church of Agios Dionysios. It is the town's busiest street during summer with plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops of every kind.

Another historic square is the one of St. Markos here the museum dedicated to Solomos, Kalvos and Eminent Zakynthians are situated.
